What are 4 parts of the female reproductive system?
Ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina
Where do the ovaries descend from?
They descend from the posterior abdominal wall preceding by gubernaculum
What is a gubernaculum?
It is a structure that acts as a guide for the ovaries to descend
Where are the ovaries located?
Lie on the peritoneum between the internal and external iliac vessels on the obturator nerve
What structures are attachments to the ovaries and uterus?
Mesovarium, Round ligament, Suspensory ligament and Broad ligament
What are the 5 parts of the uterus?
Intramural part, Isthmus, Ampulla, Infundibulum and the Fimbria
What type of muscle are the parts of the uterus?
Smooth wall muscle allowing for peristalsis
What is special about the Ampulla?
Is it the longest and widest parts of the uterus and is the part where fertilization mostly takes place
What are the 2 parts of the cervix called?
Supra vaginal part and the vaginal part
What is the natural orientation of the uterus?
Anteverted and Anteflexed
