5.2 role of feedback Flashcards
feedback
feedback is the term we use to describe information resulting from an action or response
- skill is performed = information given about that performance
intrinsic feedback
available to performers without outside help
- can include auditory, visual, touch, proprioception or feel/sense of the movement
- ex: a soccer player sees the ball hit the target adjusting form during a performance
extrinsic feedback
information that is provided for us by someone or something else
- coach, teacher, team mate
- ex: a coach correcting a gymnasts form on the balance beam
concurrent
being given during the performance
terminal
being given after the performance
knowledge of results
post-response information concerning the outcome of the action
- information about the results of performance
- usually external, can be internal if performed enough times
- ex: umpire calling a strike after batter hits the ball but they miss
knowledge of performance
information concerning the nature of the movement not results
- HOW the skill was performed
- concurrent- feel of movement
- terminal- feedback from coach/film
-ex: checking heart rate while running a marathon or watching a film after a football game to assess skills performed
positive
reinforcement of skill- makes performer aware of what went well, and how to improve in the future
negative
concentrates on errors- does not promote improvement
