4.8 The impact of change Flashcards
Why is it difficult to interpret data about changes in the distribution of animals and plants?
There are so many variables involved in assessing the data
Give examples of why it is difficult to interpret data about changes to the environment
If a crop fails it could be due to disease, bad farming practice (eg not fertile ground) or warm weather causing the plant to flower early and therefore the insects needed to pollinate it are not around.
if a species declines in an area that has become warmer it could be that they have lost their food source as it can no longer grow there, or a new animal may have moved into the area and is out competing it.
The fall in the bee population may have been caused by several factors incuding use of chemicals by farmers, viral disease or changes in flowering patterns in plants due to climate change.
What two groups of things effect the distribution of living things?
Non living factors eg temperature and living things eg competitors.

What instrument can record environmental change over a few weeks, and what is it?
A data logger, sensors attached to a computer.
