What are the two types of cholesterol
Good and bad
What is good cholesterol used for?
needed for the cells membranes and to make vital substances
What can high levels of bad cholesterol lead to?
heath disease.
What two factors cause high levels of bad cholesterol?
eating foods rich in saturated fat
Some people have inherited genes which give them high levels of bad cholesterol and are therefore more likely to have heart disease even if they have a healthy diet.
How can you lower blood cholesterol levels?
Increase exercise and have a healthy diet.
Why does eating too much make you put on weight?
Because food contains energy, and any excess energy is stored in the body as fat.
What factors can effect how much energy a person needs (that is how much food)?
Size of person
sex of person (men need more)
amount of exercise they do (metabolic rate)
the temperature
pregnancy/breastfeeding
