- Social Cognitive Theory
explains how people learn by observing others, their environment, and their own thoughts and actions. It emphasizes the dynamic interaction between personal factors (like beliefs and expectations), environmental factors (like social influences and resources), and behavior
- Reciprocal Determinism
describes the dynamic interaction between an individual’s behavior, personal factors (like thoughts, beliefs, and emotions), and the environment. It suggests that these three factors mutually influence and shape one another, rather than being solely determined by one factor.
- Self-concept
our sense of our nature and identity.
- Self-efficacy
the belief in our ability to successfully perform a specific task
- Self-esteem
how we feel about ourselves (self-worth)
- Trait Theory
That we are made up of a collection of traits, behavioral predispositions that can be identified and measured
- Big Five Trait Theory
agreeableness. openness, extraversion, and conscientiousness
- Agreeableness
A person’s tendency to be cooperative, sympathetic, and kind with a focus of one’s needs over their own.
- Openness
A person’s willingness to embrace new experiences, ideas and perspectives.
- Extraversion
The tendency of an individual to be sociable, outgoing, talkative, and assertive.
- Conscientiousness
How responsible, diligent, or careful you are. It implies a desire to do a task well, and take the obligations of others seriously.
- Emotional Stability
Traits don’t seem to change much over the lifespan. However, most people in adulthood become:
- Personality Inventories
Questionnaire assessing many personality traits, by asking which behaviors and responses the person would choose
- Factor Analysis
Identifying factors that tend to cluster together.
