4.4.2 Memory - The Working Memory Model Part 2 - Strengths and Limitations Flashcards
Who conducted research into the Working Memory Model and what was the experiment called?
Baddeley et al - Dual Task Performance
What did the Dual Task experiment test?
The ability people have of completing tasks using the same memory store at one time
What did the Dual Task Performance Test find?
Participants had more difficulty doing 2 visual tasks at once compared to doing a visual and verbal task at the same time
What two visual tasks did participants have to do in Baddeley’s experiment?
Track a light and Describe the letter ‘F’
Why is it more difficult to do two tasks using the same sub system?
Because the task is competing for the same sub system whereas when doing two different tasks the focus is spread out so there is less competition
How dies Dual Task performance support WMM?
Because it shows there are different stores of memory and that they work separately because when trying to do two of the same tasks you struggle
What clinical study supports WMM and why?
KF because he was able to process visual information but not auditory so his phonological loop must be damaged
What study supports WMM?
Baddeley et al’s Dual Task Performance
What are the limitations of the Working Memory Model?
. Only focuses on LTM and doesn’t consider STM
. Doesn’t go into detail about the likes of coding, capacity, duration and memory type
. Central Executive described as the most important component yet not much is said about it, lack of clarity
