Episodic LTM

A

Store of personal events containing the likes of who, what, where, when and why. These are usually time stamped and require conscious effort to recall e.g birthdays, good and bad events

Semantic LTM

A

Store of our knowledge of the world including facts, often we can’t remember when we learnt this but we constantly gain semantic memories and they have to be recalled consciously e.g capital cities, celebrities and friends birthdays

A

He was able to remember what a dog was but couldn’t remember stroking one earlier, he could also remember how to do skills so his episodic memory was damaged as he couldn’t remember any long term memories

A

. Scientific due to evidence gathered through objective brain scanning from Tulving et al who made participants perform memory tasks whilst in a PET scan
. Useful as it has led to implementing treatment to help improve people’s lives which has positive economic impact
