4.2 - Types And Methods Of Practice Flashcards
What is part method
When a skill is split into sub routines. Each skill is then learned seperately and then at the end its all brought together
What is the advantage of part method (3)
Perform can gain confidence learning each skill seperately
Performer can develop better technique
Can be useful for learning dangerous skills
What is whole method
Skill is taught as a whole without being broken down into separate parts.
What are the advantages of whole method
Allows the performer to experience the skill as a whole and get the kinaesthetic feeling for the movement.
What is whole part whole method
Practice method involves performer attempting skill as a whole
Then they break it down into several sub routines
And then put it back together as a whole and practice the movement as a whole
What is progressive part method
Often referred to as chaining. A serial skill if broken down into sub routines. The performer learns one subroutine at a time, then the second one. The two are then practiced together and then a third is added. The process is repeated until its a whole movement
What is massed practice
Practice that involves very short, or no rest intervals between sets.
It’s a continuous practice session
What is distributed practice
Involves relatively long rests between trials.
What is fixed practice
Involves a stable and predictable practice environment, without changes in practice conditions
What is varied practice
Practice is varied so performer comes into contact with a range of experiences.
