Acute diaorrhoea- >3d less than 14d
Dysentry- infectious gastroenteritis with bloody diorrheoa
Persistent diarrhoea-acutely starting diarrhoea lasting>14d
Traveller’s diarrhoea- starting during or shortly after foeign travel
Food poisoning- caused by consumption of food/water
What viruses’ cause diarrhoea?
Norovirus Rotavirus Adenovirus Sapovirus CMV
What are the causes of food related diarrhoea?
Salmonella- undercooked eggs/meatr (12-72hr)
Campylobacter- under cooked meat, croos contamiantion. 2-5d
E.coli- beef/milk (1-2d)
Listeria- cole meat, 3-70d
bacilla cereus- 30mins-15days
What are the common causes of travellers diarrhoea?
E.coli-watery diarrhoea, cramps and nausea
Giardia- bloating and belching
Campylobacter jejuni and shigella- cramps
Differntials- parasites- cryptosporidiu etc
