Use of Coast Guard Aircraft
- Only used for official purposes
- Not used for political activities
- Commercial transportation shall be used for passengers and/or cargo to maximum extent practicable
Three Types of Authorized Official Uses

Approval of Passengers onboard CG Aircraft
Transportation of passengers require secondary approval.
Passenger Record Keeping Requirement
All approvals to carry passengers or cargo shall be retained as part of official flight record and retained 7 years.
Record include:
1) Passenger Manifest
2) Documents approving transportation of passengers
3) Cost justification where appropriate
AOR Flight
Must land at departure airfield or else additional approval is required
MEDEVAC
Patients and attendants approved to fly when medical condition has been validated by Flight Surgeon.
Immediate family member is authorized to accompany patient if under 18.
OGA Permissions
May fly on approved missions to cooperate with or in support of federal, state, or local agencies. Requesting agency must provide approving authority with adequate justification.
Foreign Nationals
Approved by OPCON. Approved if they’re supporting CG Missions.
Media
Coordinate through CoC including district public affairs in advance with legal and inform 711.
Transportation of Cargo
Commerical means used to maximum extent possible
Categories:
1) Mission Essential: Its used for the mission (lox cart to JIATF)
2) Non-Mission Essential as Primary Purpose of Flight: Not used for the mission (e.g. OPBAT Log Run, MQ9 Transport, etc.)
3) Non-Mission Essential as Secondary Purpose: Same as primary but on space-available basis
Cargo Inspection and HAZMAT Cargo Authority
Commanding officer or Pilot in Command by inspect, regulate, and/or prohibit cargo for safety of flight reasons.
Orientation Flight
Must depart and land at same airport. Stopovers allowed but passengers may not conduct other official business.
Participant Authorized to operation Flight Controls
1) CG Aviators not designated in type and model
2) Foreign Exchange Pilots not designated in type and model assigned to CG aviation units
3) DHS Pilots and DoD Aviation on Active Duty
4) Coast Guard Aircrew (designated in type and model)
5) Flight Surgeons
6) CATP and 1/c Aviation Intern Personnel
7) Participants of USCG commissioning and pre-commissioning programs
Orientation Flight Restrictions
1) AC occupies the left seat
2) Participants shall not occupy seat below 1,000’
3) Particpants many operate controls above 1,000’
