2.5 Structure Of Capillaries Flashcards
Where does blood circulate from?
From the heart, arteries, capillaries, veins and back to the heart
What happens to blood pressure as it moves away from the heart?
It decreases
What are veins and what do they do?
Veins are compulsory to large organs. Its a complex system which allowd for internal environment to be kept, it assists/ controls excretion, digestion and respirstion
Whats the main types of blood vessels?
Arteries, capillaries, veins, arterioles and venules
Whats an Arterioles and venule?
Arterioles- Smaller branch of arteries
Venules- very small veins
Label the structure of lumen, etc in your head?
Well done
What carries blood away from the heart and what carries blood back to the heartv
Arteries- away
Veins- back to
What helps arteries to pulsate?
The elastic fibres
What is the central lumen lined with?
Endothelium
Whats difference between vein and artery in terms of blood flow and why?
Artery has a wider lumen for more blood flow
In veins, what do vavles do and why?
Prevent the backflow of blood as pressure is lower in veins
Where is blood pressure the highest and lowest and why?
The highest in arteries as it has come from the heart, the further blood gets from the heart the less pressure it has, hence why veins have the least because they draw blood back to the heart
When blood goes from arteries to veins, what must it pass through
The capilleries
What is a capillary?
Microscopic vessels
What connects to Arterioles and venules?
Capillaries
