2.1 Gamete production Flashcards
Whats produced by fertilisation?
The zygote, then the embryo and then the foetus
Label the male reproductive system in your head?
Hope ya done it big boy
Where is sperm made and how is it carried?
Made in seminiferous tubules and carried through sperm duct
In the Seminiferous tubules where are interstitial cells and blood cells? What do Interstitial cells do? To add where are the other cells? (2)
Hope you thought and interstitial cells produce testosterone
Germaline cells are the little egg looking things
What does the prostate gland and seminal vesicles do? (2)
Prostate gland adds a fluid which assists with Motility/ viscosity
Seminal vesicles add a fructose which provides energy and causes contractions
What are two requirements for spem to show motility? (2)
The fructose (energy) and secretion of semen
Whats the difference between sperm and semen? (2)
Sperm comes from seminiferous tubules and is what the egg needs and semen is the fluid which comes from prostate gland and seminal vesicles
Label the female productive system?
I do hope that you managed to do it big boy.
What do ovaries produce?
Ova and hormones
How often is menopause?
Every 28 days until ovum is fertilised
What surrounds ovum and produces hormone oestrogen?
The follicle
After ovulation, the follicle develops in this structure and produces what? (2)
The structure is the corpus luteum and produces progesterone
What’s the entire process of ovary developing an ovum from a germaline cell?
Yeah man!
What’s the process of the ovary producing hormone and what hormone?
Yeah dud
Where are interstitial cells and blood cells?
In between seminiferous tubules
What is used for energy and contracts female reproductive tract?
Fructose from seminal vesicles
How is sperm made?
From germaline cells in the seminiferous tubules
Where does sperm meet the egg?
In the oviduct
Where is testosterone found?
In blood as that’s where interstitial cells are and they make testosterone
What does testosterone do?
Sperm, secretions from accessory glands and sexual development
In the ovary where does the ova come from?
It’s comes from a germaline cell
What’s a germaline cell?
Sex cells (sperm and egg) as that is what they are formed from, germaline cells
What does the corpus luteum secrete?
Progesterone
What does the follicle secrete?
Oestrogen
What does motile mean?
Moving/ can move
Which accessory gland secretes a liquid rich in hormone like chemicals?
Seminal vesicles
What are the accessory glands?
The prostate gland and seminal vesicles
What is the ovary?
A site for germaline cells to use meiosis for ovum production
What’s the uterus?
Where embryo/ Phoebus develop after the zygote is formed
What’s the cervix?
Links the vagina to uterus
