20. Extending Mendelian Genetics Flashcards
what are the four gene dominacne relationships?
complete dominance incomplete dominance co-dominance multiple alleles
define complete dominance
the dominant allele is expressed
define incomplete domincance
intermediate inheritance - a combination of both parental alleles that makes a third phenotype. eg purple flower crossed with white flower makes pink
define co-dominance
two forms of a gene is present and neither is dominant or recessive, both alleles are equal
define multiple gene epatasis
one gene affects the phenotypic expression of another gene. it influences another traits and is a chian reaction. genotypes and phenotypes are different
define polygenic inheritance
more than one gene involved in determining phenotype
what is hemizygous?
genotype description for x linked sex genes who only have one allele. eg:
male:
XwY
female: XwXw
y chromsome is to small
