Fall onto an outstreched arm or shoulder Direct blow to the clavicle

If any of the following is true:
• Seperation
• Open fracture
• Associated nervous damage
• Associated vascular damage
• Non-union after 3 months
• Distal third fracture
What is the cause of scapular fractures?
A fractured scapula indicates severe chest trauma (IE vehicle accident)

Erb’s palsey: the arm hangs by the side and is rotated medially; the forearm is extended and pronated.
Klumpke’s paralysis: a characteristic sign is the clawed hand, due to loss of function of the ulnar nerve and the intrinsic muscles of the hand it supplies.
