138 technology Flashcards
how can new technology be used by busineses
-comupter aided manufacture (CAM)
- comupter aided design CAD)
- information technology
- robotics
explain information technology (IT)
-used by busineses to increase productivity. accounting software to analyse income/expenditure improving financial effeiciency, bar codes and EPOS (sale system) systems are used to manage stock
- internet allows business to meet geographical market , reduce adversiting costs and improe customer conveninece eg. data from browsing abd purchases allow for targeted marketing, abd social media marketing/phones for online shopping
explain computer-aided design (CAD)
- is an interactive computer system which is capable of generating, storing and using computer graphics.
- assists digital engineers in solving design problems
- CAD has reduced the length of time between the initial design concept and and actual production->product on shelf quicker-competitve advantage
explain computer-aided manaufacturer
- use of it in industries eg. use of CAM in packaging vegetables for a supermarket- where machines digitally photograph each veggie and automatically sort them into bags based on size/shape
-these machines prodcue output of the same quaility everyday- guranteeing customer satisfaction - CAM cuts costs eg.tailors use machines tp cut materal in the mosteconmic way-reducing waste
explain robotics
- robots can be sued in differnt ways eg. robots with machcine vision to cheak that bottles are filled to the right level so tops/caps fit
- they can sort chocolates into boxes, sort appples, slice cakes
-> more accurate than people
advantages of a business using technology in the operations of a business
-improved quality. eg.robots and CAM processes
-faster innovation-easier and less expensive to model/test new products using CAD and computer modelling
-more effective marketing and sales- marketing new products encourages customer to keep buying
-increased productivity technology increases output per worker
-* reduced waste*-stock control though EPOS and more precise manufacturing means there should be less water in production meaning lower costs
disadvantages of using technology in the operations of a business
- high costs
- when technology breaks down-hard to meet demand- costly to repair
- some workers may lose jobs- especially those who are not adaptable
- always pressure to buy latest machine- business may not be a bale to invest money into other areas eg.marketing as they are using money to buy latest tech
