129 workforce preformance Flashcards
what is workforce planning
when managers examine the workforce performance they are examining the effectiveness of human resource management
what is meant by labour productivity + formula
is a measurement of the efficiency in which a business turns production inputs into outputs.
output per period —————————————— number of employees per period
what is meant by absenteeism + formula
looks at the number of productive days lost due staff absences for periods of time eg. if 3 people are off, 3 days of productivity lost
total number of staff absences day over a year ——————————————————————————- x 100 total number of working days that should have been worked
what is meant by labour turnover + formula
is a measure of that rate at which employees are leaving an organisation
number of leavers —————————————————- x 100 average (total) number of employees
labour productivity (+)/(-)
(+) productivity can be increased by business investing in n-the-job training schemes for employees -> (-) however, it depends on the different levels of training, if its too hard it could demotivate
(+) productivity can be increased thug increasing the wages of employees as it will motivate them to work harder -> (-) however, it depends on the budget available, if they’re not making enough, wages can’t be increased /no incentive to work hard
interpret labour productivity
- higher the better
- more productivity can lead to lower costs per unit for a business as fr the same wages they are producing more units
- BUT; if a worker is working too fast to improve output , the quality of products have fallen
- productivity of worker depends on equipment/technology being used
interpret labour turnover
-the lower the better - indicate staff are. satisfied with heir job
- saves business money- lower recruitment costs
-BUT; some labour turnover can be good as it allows new staff to be recruited who have different perspectives and fresh ideas
