13 2c shock Flashcards
shock
Widespread hypoxia of tissues caused by the ineffective
circulation of blood
shock causes
- Hypovolaemia
- Impaired cardiac function
- Trauma
- Severe infections
- Generalised hypersensitivity reactions
disorders of haemostasis
Vascular disorders
} Platelet disorders
} Coagulation disorders
Vascular disorders
◦ Scurvy, easy bruising (Vit C deficiency)
} Platelet disorders
◦ Thrombocytopenia
◦ Platelet function disorders
} Coagulation disorders
◦ Congenital - Haemophilia A (#8), B (#9 ), Von- Willebrands (most common hereditary clotting disease – lacks protein to synthesise)
◦ Acquired - Vitamin-K deficiency, Liver disease, HITS
◦ Mixed
◦ Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC)
Erythropoiesis
– formation of blood cells
Haemolysis –
destruction of RBC’s ( bilirubin ins result of
breakdown)
Erythropoietin
– hormone secreted by the kidney in
response to tissue hypoxia ( in anaemia, high altitude or
pulmonary disease)
Apoptosis
– programmed cell death
