10.3b - Network Analysis Flashcards
Critical path analysis definition
A project analysis and planning method that allows a project to be completed in the shortest possible time
What information is needed for CPA to be carried out?
- A list of activities required to complete the project
- The duration that each activity will take to completion
- The dependencies between activities
What does CPA calculate?
- The shortest path of planned activities to the end of the project
- Earliest and last time that each activity can start and finish without making the project longer
- Which activities are critical and which have total float
Critical activity definition
An activity that is on the shortest path to project completion
Total float definition
When an activity can be delayed without making the project longer
Node definition
A circle that represents a point in time where an activity is started or finished
How can you quickly tell if a node is on the critical path?
The EST and LFT will be the same
EST definition
The earliest start time that the activity can commence based on the completion of the previous activity
LFT definition
The latest finish time by which the previous activity must be completed
When two activities meet, will the next activity’s EST be the higher or lower figure?
Higher
When two activities meet, will the previous activities LFT be the higher or lower figure?
Lower
