Battle of the Marne -

A

The Battle of the Marne saw the German forces making their famous advance towards paris. French and BEF troops were sent in as reinforcements to stop the advance in its tracks. French rained fire with crazy good accuracy to the point where the Germans thought that they were being shot with machine guns. Germans had to retreat and dig in for trench warfare putting a halt to Schliffen’s plan.

Battle of Verdun -

A

The Battle of Verdun was the most costly battle in world history where the German army commander had determined that the main enemy was Britain but to destroy their will they first have to destroy France. This led him to make the decision that the goal of this battle was just to inflict as many casualties as possible on the French. The only problem with this battle was that when the French gathered their reinforcements they inflicted just as many casualties as dealt to them. Both sides lost an estimate of 300,000 troops.

Russian Withdrawal -

A

Russia withdraws from the war because they are having a revolution in their own country which would end up leading to the rise in power of the soviets, creating the USSR. The Tsar at the time was becoming very unpopular and with factors such as food shortages, the war’s death toll and a man named Rasputin having control over the royal family, all seemed to be crashing down on the government. In the end the soviet party and the Bolsheviks staged a coup to officially put themselves in power. This soviet party would later become the communist party of the soviet union.

A

The treaty of Versailles was a treaty where Germany had to take all the blame for the war and destruction, have to pay up for the damages, have to give up all claimed land during the war, demilitarize the Rhineland and have a much smaller military.
