Q

What are the 2 ligaments of the wrist & hand?

A

1: transverse carpal lig
2: the collateral ligaments of the MCP joints

17
Q

Describe the function and attachments of the collateral ligaments of the MCP joints?

A

F: stabilize MCP joints
A: from head of metacarpals to base of adjacent proximal phalanx

18
Q

Describe the function and attachents of the transvers carpal ligament?

A

F: prevents bowstringing of the tendons of FPL, FDS, & FDP mm.
A: from pisiform & hook of hamate to scaphoid & trapezium

19
Q

How are the 8 carpal bones organized?

A

Proximal row: scaphoid, lunate, triquetum, pisiform
Distal row: Trapezium, trapezoid, capitate, hamate
*from radial to ulnar
Some Lovers Try Positions
That They Cant Handle

20
Q

What is the role of the transverse carpal ligament in carpal tunnel syndrome? What structures can be damaged?

A

Transverse carpal ligament is the superior palmar border of the carpal tunnel w/ carpal bones as inferior palmar border
Compression from inflammation of the ligamentous sheaths running through the carpal tunnel can entrap the median n. running through and cause sensory and even motor damage

21
Q

Name the muscles that form the tendons running in the 6 compartments formed by the extensor retinaculum?

A

1: EPB, APL, EPL
2:ECRB & ECRL
3: EPL
4: ED & EI
5: EDM
6: ECU

22
Q

What are the 9 extrinsic muscles of the hand?

A

Flexors: FDS, FDP, FPL
APL
Extensors: ED, EDM, EPB, EPL, EI

23
Q

What are the compartments of the 18 intrinsic muscles of the hand?

A

Thenar, 3: APB, FPB, Opponens pollicis
Hypothenar, 3: abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi, opponens digiti minimi
Adductor pollicis (transverse & oblique head)
Central/Lumbricals, 4: proximal attx @ tendons of FDP & distal attx @ radial dorsi of digital expansions
Interossei, 7: 4 dorsal interossei (DAB) & 3 palmar interossei (PAD)
