Pectoral Region Outcomes Flashcards
What are the joints of the shoulder girdle?
A. Sternoclavicular
B.Acromioclavicular
C. Glenohumeral
D. Scapulothoracic
What is the synovial classification of the sternoclavicular joint?
Saddle
What is the synovial classification of the acromioclavicular joint?
Plane
What is the synovial classification of the glenohumeral joint?
Ball & socket
What is the synovial classification of the scapulothoracic joint?
pseudo-joint- it does not have ligaments, true joint surfaces, cartilege
What is the purpose of the scapulothoracic joint?
This pseudo-joint functions to allow the scapula to move with the upper limb to allow full glenohumeral function
What does the coracoclavicular ligament do?
Stabilizes acromioclavicular joint & limits medial displacement, protraction, & elevation
-trapezoid
-conoid
What are the two “sub”-ligaments of the coracoclavicular ligament of the AC joint?
Trapezoid (lateral): attaches from coracoid process to trapezoid line of clavicle
Conoid (medial): attached from coracoid process to conoid tubercle of clavicle
Describe the acromioclavicular ligament?
The AC ligament stabilizes the AC joint
Attaches from superior aspect of acromical end of clavicle to adjacent acromion
Coracoacromial ligament function and attachments?
Prevents superior displacement of the humeral head by forming the coracoacromial arch
Attaches from lateral border of coracoid process to acromion adjacent to clavicular articulation
Coracohumeral ligament function and attachments?
Reinforces superoanterior aspects of the joint capsule
Attaches from base of coracoid process to anterior aspect greater tubercle
Costoclavicular ligament function and attachment
This ligament functions to stabilize the sternoclavicular joint and limit elevation of the clavicle
Superior aspect of cartilage of 1st rib to undersurface clavicle
Superior transverse scapular ligament
Closes of the suprascapular notch
Attaches from base of coracoid process to medial edge of scapular notch
What neurovascular structures are near the superior transverse scapular ligament?
Superior to the ligament is the suprascapular artery
Inferior to the ligament and running inside the notch is the suprascapular nerve.
What are the attachments of the glenoid capsule ligament?
Circumfrence of the glenoid cavity to the medial edge of the scapular notch
