Winter Ops Flashcards
On a contaminated runway what would your thoughts be with regards to thrust and flap setting?
Must take TOGA
Consider using Flaps 2/3 to get off the ground earlier
When landing on a contaminated runway what are the considerations?
Flaps full Use the autobrake No planned tailwinds Firm touchdown No autoland
Around what temperature are you most likely to get a frozen T, what would you do about it?
-10 to +3
Tactical inspection, local spot de-icing on both wings.
On a holdover time table, each column has two times associated to it; which one should you use?
It depends on the intensity of the precipitation.
For light intensity use the bigger number, moderate use the smaller number.
How do you determine the intensity of snowfall in order to know which time to use on a holdover time table?
Snowfall Intensities as a Function of Prevailing Visibility
Cold weather quick reference 3.3
Which areas are an exception to the clean aircraft concept?
3mm of frost on the underside of the wing
Thin hoarfrost on the radome, fuselage and engine nacelle.
Does a HOT apply to local spot deicing ?
No
What info should be given to you after deicing/anti icing?
Type
Mixture ratio
Start time
“Post Application Check Complete”
Can you take off after the holdover time expires?
Yes, provided you have checkd the critical surfaces. Walk down to the overwing.
What is the difference between a damp and wet runway?
Wet runway is shiny when wet.
When using the RCAM table to work out braking performance and crosswind limit, which piece of information taken from weather reports/snowtams should be used as the primary source to go into the table with:
A) Contaminent type and depth
B) Estimated Surface Friction (ESF)
C) Pilot Reports of Braking Action (PiRep of BA)
A)
The other two can be used just as secondary info
What is th aquaplaning formula?
9X(tyre pressure/specific gravity of contaminant)^2
I think SG of water is 1, tyre pressure is usually 210 (320neo).
=130kts we will aquaplane
Where would you find the Runway Condition Assesment Matrix RCAM?
QRH - IN FLT PERF
