Wet Lab 7 - Ligaments Intrinsics To The Foot Flashcards
Where is the bifurcate ligament located ?
What is the function of the bifurcate ligament ?
It joins the calcaneus to one part of the cuboid and also to the navicular bone (the 2nd bifurcation)
Where is the dorsal calcaneocuboid ligament located ?
What is the function of the dorsal calcaeocuboid ligament?
It joins the calcaneus to the cuboid
Where is the dorsal tarsal ligament located?
What is the function of the dorsal tarsal ligament ?
It is a general name for ligaments that join neighbouring tarsals to each other, on the top of the foot
Where is the dorsal tarsometatarsal ligament located?
What is the function of the dorsal tarsometatarsal ligaments?
It binds the distal row of tarsals to the base of the metatarsals, on the top of the foot
Where is the dorsal metatarsal ligament located?
What is the function of the dorsal metatarsal ligament?
It binds the bases of the metatarsals together, on the top of the foot
Where is the deep transverse ligament located?
What is the function of the deep transverse ligament ?
It holds the distal ends of the metatarsals together
Where is the spring ligament/plantar calcaneonavicular ligament located ?
What is the function of the spring ligament ?
It maintains the (medial) longitudinal arch of the foot
Where is the interosseous talocalcaneal ligament located ?
What is the function of the interosseous talocalcaneal ligament ?
It binds the calcaneus and talus together. It is also important on inversion-eversion movements
Where is the plantar aponeurosis (fascia) located?
What is the function of the plantar aponeurosis (fascia)?
It helps maintain the foot’s longitudinal arch and also the windlass effect
Where is the Long plantar ligament located ?
What is the function of the long plantar ligament ?
Helps maintain the foot’s longitudinal arches (mostly the lateral)
Where is the short plantar ligament located?
What is the function of the short plantar ligament ?
Helps maintain the foot’s longitudinal arches (mostly the lateral)
Where is the deep transverse metatarsal ligament located ?
What is the function of the deep transverse metarsal ligament ?
It binds the heads of the metatarsals together
Which ligament in the foot is most easily seen from above?
The Spring ligament - with an opened calcaenonavicular joint
What is the tarsal sinus ?
It is the space between the talus and the calcaneus, on the lateral side. All sinuses are just cavities/spaces
Why is the tarsal sinus important for physios?
Clinicians inject it so we need to know what it is and where it is
How is the tarsal sinus formed ?
It is formed by the articulation of the talus with the calcaneus, with both bones having a groove/sulcus in them. Where the two grooves join, a space is formed
What ligament is attached to the tarsal sinus ?
Interosseous talocalcaneal ligament
