where does hip pathology generally cause pain and why?
A
groin
may radiate to the knee due to obturator nerve supplying hip and knee
can also cause only knee pain

what is usually the first sign of hip pathology?
A
loss of internal rotation
reduced range of motion

how might hip pathology present?
A
pain - exacerbated by rotational movement
trendelenburg sign in abductor weakness
shortening of limb - severe OA, perthes, SUFE or AVN

what else might cause groin pain?
A
hernia (inguinal or femoral)
tendonitis (esp adductor)
pubic symphysis dysfunction
high lumbar disc prolapse
