A

symptoms or signs which indicate a serious underlying pathology such as tumour, infection or spondylolisthesis

back pain in over 60 yrs
nature of pain - severe, constant, worse at night

why is back pain in <20s a red flag?

A

children more susceptible to infections

adolescents more susceptible to spondylolisthesis as well as benign and malignant tumours

why is new back pain in over 60s a red flag?

A

can represent arthritis change or a crush fracture

at higher risk of neoplasia, mainly metastases and multiple myeloma
