What are 3 tactics for changing health behavior? Give examples of each
1) Substitute one behavior with a similar one, usually requires education
-Ex: Tylenol for ASA to prevent Reye’s syndrome
2) Encourage with incentives.
-Ex: greater insurance coverage for mammography
3) Most difficult behaviors to change = behaviors with physiological or addictive components
-Ex: obesity, cigarette smoking.
5 stages of the Transtheoretical Model/Stages of Change Model; describe the first 3 parts:
1) Precontemplation
2) Contemplation
3) Preparation
1) Individual has not yet considered changing their behavior; efforts to encourage change not likely to be successful
2) Benefits and barriers to change info helpful
-Information on short, immediate, and long term gains is useful at this stage
3) Preparation: Developing a plan of action
-May be especially receptive to setting goals, considering options, and developing a timetable

4) Action: When the change in behavior takes place
-This is the stage when outside support is needed to support and reinforce the change and any setbacks that may occur
5) Maintenance: The new behavior becomes part of the individual’s lifestyle

Similar to product marketing, using health issues and targeting specific populations.
-Ex. VERB campaign, national youth anti-drug campaign
