Water Properties Flashcards
Cohesion definition:
H bonding between water molecules, it creates surface tension.
Adhesion definition:
H bonding between water and other substances and has capillary action and water climbs up.
Solvent definition:
Water is an example of a solvent it does the dissolving
Specific heat definition:
Amount of energy it takes to heat up 1 gram of a substance by 1 degree Celsius.
Heat of vaporization:
Hydrogen bonds must be completely broken.
Five water properties?
Solid, liquid, gas, cohesion, and adhesion.
How does each water polar bond makes each property?
When they are close together and are unbreakable they are sold but when they start breaking apart they become either a liquid, gas, and either go through adhesion or cohesion or both.
Why is each property important to living things?
Because it sustains life throughout the world whenever they live whether that’s in the cold Arctic or in a tropical rainforest where it’s warm, all adapting to the changes of the environment which in turn adapts with the animals intake of water too.
