Transcription Flashcards
Transcription:
Making mRNA
DNA to RNA to Proteins
Parts of eukaryotic cell
Enhancer, Promoter, Econ, and intron
Stages
Initiation, Elongation, and Termination
Splicing process:
RNA is being spliced which is introns being removed.
Initiation:
Transcription factors bind to promoters and enhancers, start copying the gene sequence into mRNA.
Elongation:
RNA Polymerase breaks free from transcription factors. Protective cap of 5’ is added to RNA. RNA polymerase copies DNA, other proteins are recruited that splice out introns.
Termination:
RNA polymerase moves past the polyadenylation site so RNA doesn’t die as it leaves the nucleus.
Promoter:
Where transcription starts.
Enhancer/silencer:
Additional binding site for transcription factors, can start or stop the process.
Exons:
Sequences that will be present in the mRNA.
Introns:
Will be spliced out and removed.
