Variables Flashcards
What is a dependent variable?
A variable that is being changed and/or tested during an experiment.
What is a independent variable?
A variable that is purposefully changed in a n experiment.
What is a control group?
A group that is untested compared to another group that is being tested so they can compare the changes between the two groups to measure and obtain accurate results.
What is an experimental group?
A group that is being tested on
What axis’s must the dependent and independent variables go on?
The dependent goes on the y-axis because it’s being measured and the independent goes on the x-axis because it is purposefully being changed.
Examples of independent variables
Temperature, amount of gibberellic acid, and ages, things that are purposefully changed.
Examples of dependent variables
Food consumed, plant height at 1 week, and percent of germination, thi no s that are being measured and that are outcomes of the thing being changed.
Difference between independent, dependent, and control group?
Independent is purposefully being changed.
Dependent is measuring the outcome of the thing being changed.
Control group is the group that is untouched and is used to compare to the results of the thing that is changed.
Hypothesis of the variables
If I change the amount of sunlight that sunflowers get each day then the sunflowers will differently because the amount of sunlight they get effects their growth.
Independent is the south of sunlight
Dependent is the height of the sunflowers
Control group is the amount of water they get which will be the same for each sunflower.
What would it look like on a graph if you increase the temperature of the pinto beans?
As you increase the temperature you increase the percentage of germination for the pinto beans.
