Mutation Flashcards
1
Q
Mutation:
A
A change in base sequences in a DNA molecule.
2
Q
Point mutations:
A
Substitution of a single base.
3
Q
Silent mutation:
A
No amino acid change, redundancy in code.
4
Q
Missense:
A
Change 1st or 2nd codon, changing amino acid.
5
Q
Non-Sense:
A
Change to stop codon.
6
Q
Frameshift:
A
Shifts how you read the codons. Insertions- adding codons or deletions- removing codons, occur.
7
Q
Translation:
A
Making of a protein using codons in mRNA as instructions.
8
Q
mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA
A
mRNA: Copies DNA code to take it from the nucleus to the ribosome.
tRNA: Brings amino acids to the ribosome.
rRNA: It makes mRNA and tRNA pair up.
