Macromolecules Flashcards
Monomer names and examples of each group of macromolecules
Fatty acids which are in Fats/Lipids.
Monosacchrides which are in Carbohydrates.
Amino Acids which are in protein.
Polymer names and examples of each group of macromolecules
Steroids and waxes which are in Fats/Lipids.
Polysacchrides which are in Carbohydrates.
Polypeptides which are in protein.
Functions of each group of macromolecules
Fats/Lipids- Long term storage of energy and blocks of building for hormones.
Carbohydrates- Provide energy and make cellulose.
Protein- Digests enzymes and coordinates hormones.
Which elements are found in which monomers
Fats- oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon
Carbs- carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen
Proteins- hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen.
Which functional groups are found in which monomers
In all three monomers carboxyl is found. Sulfhydryl and phospate can be found in fats. Amino is in proteins.
Comparing and contrasting the structure of macromolecule groups
All have many polymers that form them but some are rings, branches, or both.
Comparing and contrasting the functions of macromolecule groups
Carbs and fats store and provide energy which protein uses to build muscle in a way. Proteins do more repair and building than fats and carbs do.
