Concentration Flashcards
Concentration:
Higher solvent
pH-
Measures H3O + on a logarithmic scale.
pOH-
Measures OH- on a logarithmic scale
Hydroxide ion-
Is H+ and goes along with pH more hydroxide ions the more acidic it is.
Hydronium ion-
Ties in with OH-, more Hydronium Ions the more Basic it is.
Acid-
Lower pH level which means higher concentration.
Basic-
Higher pH level which means lower concentration.
How to solve for pH, pOH, H+, and OH-
pH + pOH= 14
H+= pH to the - power
OH-= pOH to the -power
How to tell from the four variables if something is an acid or a base
If I have a pH of 8 and a pOH of 6 bam pOH wins because it’s more in its negative form which leaves that negative 8th the dust and since it’s more and it’s tied with basic it’s a basic liquid.
Same thing if I had a 6 pH and a 8 pOH just flipped, I got more pH bam since it ties with acids it makes it acidic and that’s all to it!
