How does warfarin work?
A
Vitamin K antagonist, and decreases the clotting ability of II, VII, IX, X. Protein C and S inhibited but to a lesser degree.

What are the indications of warfarin?
A
Prophylaxis and treatment of VTE/PE
TIA
Prophylaxis of embolism in AF/rheumatic heart disease

What are the contraindications of warfarin?
A
Haemorrhagic stroke, significant bleeding, avoid 48hrs postpartum, low platelet count, bacterial endocarditis, hyper/hypothyroidism

What are the drug interactions of warfarin?
A
When combined with NSAIDs increases risk of GI bleeding, many antibiotics (e.g. metronidazole)

What are the side effects of warfarin?
A
Hamorrhage, nausea/vomiting
