How does aspirin work?
A
Inhibits COX. This suppresses the production of prostaglandins and thromboxanes which are involved in the clotting cascade). Result is reduced coagulation.

What are the indications for aspirin?
A
Prophylaxis of cardiovascular disease/DVT/PE, unstable angina, N/STEMI, TIA, ischaemic stroke, AF, pyrexia, prevention of pre-eclampsia, pain

What are the contraindications of aspirin?
A
Bleeding disorders, haemophilia, no under 16s due to risk of Reye’s syndrome

What are the drug interactions of clopidogrel?
A
Clopidogrel (can cause excessive bleeding), NSAIDs, LMWH

What are the side effects of aspirin?
A
Haemorrhage, asthma attack, bronchospasm, dyspepsia
