How does bendroflumethiazide work?
A
Thiazide diuretic - blocks Na and Cl being reabsorbed in distal convoluted tubule so water follows and is excreted as urine

What are the indications for bendroflumethiazide?
A
Hypertension, oedema

What are the contraindications of bendroflumethiazide?
A
Addison’s disease, hyponatraemia/hypokalaemia, hypercalcaemia
Not for gestational hypertension

Name a drug interaction with benzoflumethiazide
A
Avoid alcohol consumption whilst taking it

Name some side effects of benzoflumethiazide
A
Dehydration (leading to orthostatic hypotension or AKI), low Cl, Na, K.
Can increase concentration of uric acid, glucose, and calcium
