Digoxin Flashcards
1
Q
How does digoxin work?
A
Inhibits the Na+/K+/ATPase in the myocardium. Causes an increase in intracellular Ca which increases heart contractility, consequently decreasing the heart rate
2
Q
What are the indications of digoxin?
A
AF, atrial flutter, heart failure
3
Q
What are the contraindications for digoxin?
A
Constrictive pericarditis, cardiomyopathy, heart block, Woldd-Parkinson-White syndrome, ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia
4
Q
What are the drug interactions of digoxin?
A
Amiodarone, verapamil, quinidine : all increase concentration of digoxin
5
Q
What are the side effects of digoxin?
A
Dizziness/diarrhoea/nausea/vomiting, arrhythmias, cardiac conduction disorder
