Walls & Floor of Pelvis Flashcards
Piriformis arises?
middle 3 pieces of sacrum/lateral mass
Obturator internus on which wall?
lateral wall
3 parts of pelvic floor/levator ani?
Pubo coccyxgeous
Ilio coccyxgeous
Ischio coccyxgeous
Which pelvic floor muscles lift?
Pubo coccyxgeous
Ilio coccyxgeous
which pelvic floor muscles doesn’t lift? why?
Ischio coccyxgeous, was for residual tail
purpose of pelvic floor?
closes off pelvis from perineum
Ischio coccyxgeous parallels which ligament?
sacrospinous ligament
piriformis exits via?
greater sciatic foramen into gluteal region
obturator internus location re: pelvis or peritoneum?
half in pelvis
half in peritoneum
3 parts of the Pubo coccyxgeous?
- pubo vaginalis/puboprotaticus most anterior slings around vagina/prostate
- pubo rectalis blends with ano-rectal junction
- Pubo coccyxgeous proper
why is pubo rectalis important?
fecal retention
where do you get dense fascia in pelvis?
over things that don’t move:
prostate
piriformis
back walls
where do you get loose fascia in pelvis?
over things that move
pelvic floor
uterus
bladder
endopelvic fascia condense where?
near neurovascular bundles that form ‘ligaments’ mostly arteries
why is pelvic sepsis bad?
spread very quickly
Common iliac artery splits into? what so they supply?
external iliac: lower limb
internal iliac: pelvic structures
how is sacral plexus stuck onto piriformis?
via dense fascia
2 branches of internal iliac? where do they go?
Anterior: some parietal, mostly visceral via ‘ligaments’ from side wall
Posterior: parietal branches
where is pelvic viscera in relation to peritoneal cavity?
beneath the peritoneal cavity
what are dependent folds/pouches?
the peritoneum viscera hangs between viscera eg. between bladder and colon
what is the dependent pouch near rectum called?
Male: rectovesical pouch
Female: Recto-uterine pouch
what is under the rectovesical pouch?
seminal vesicles
bladder expands how? clinical significance?
up into peritoneum
can aspirate with needle if needed
