What would the serologic markers of a person vaccinated for HBV look like?
only Anti-HBsAb (+)
What would the serology of a person who recovered from HBV look like.
(+) for Anti-HBsAb and Anti-HBc IgG
What is the HBeAg a marker of?
Infectivity. HBeAg is more infective
Serology of acute HBV infection
(+) for HBsAg and Anti-HBc IgM. HBeAg if more infective.
Serology of window period in HBV infection
Only (+) for anti-HBcAb
Serological markers in Chronic HBV
(+) for HBsAg, Anti-HBc IgG; HBeAg (+) if highly infective.
What are the HIV tests?
First ELISA (hi sensitivity), then Western blot (hi specificity).
function of HIV’s gp120
attachement to host T-cell
gp41 (HIV)
fusion and entry
gag (p24) (HIV)
capsid protein
pol gene (HIV)
reverse transcriptase
What does HIV’s env gene code for?
gp160, which is cleaved into gp120 and gp41, HIV’s envelope proteins
