What are the findings in tertiary syphlis?
gummae, aortitis (vasa vasorum destruction), neurosyphilis (tabes dorsalis), Argyll Robertson pupil.
What is an Argyll Robertson pupil?
Prostitute’s pupil: small pupil that accomodates but does not react to light.
What is tabes dorsalis?
degeneration of proprioception, vibration sense, and light touch due to degeneration of dorsal columns in tertiary syphilis.
What can cause a false (+) VDRL?
Viral infection (mono, hep)
Drugs
Rheumatic fever
Lupus, leprosy
What is bacillary angiomatosis? Cause?
complication of Bartonella infection in immunocompromised. proliferation of blood vessels into tumor-like formations.
What is tularemia? Causative agent?
high fever, red face, eyes.
Francisella tularensis is spread by ticks and deer flies.
What does Pasteurella cause? Source of infection?
cellulitis, osteomyelitis.
