Visceral: ulcerated lesion at site of bite, marked hepatosplenomegaly, spiking fevers, pancytopenia
Mucocutaneous: destruction of hard and soft palate
Pt complains of foul-smelling vaginal discharge. How do you differentiate between Gardnerella and Trichomonas clinically?
Trichomonas has severe inflammation (“Strawberry vagina”) with itching and burning. Discharge is greenish. Gardnerella disharge is grey and has less inflam.
How do you Tx a Trich infection?
Metronidazole for pt. AND PARTNER.
Pt treated w/ doxycycline for Lyme disease but continues to have fevers and hemolytic anemia. What do you prescribe?
Quinine and clindamycin for Babesiosis.
Maltese cross in blood cells
Babesia
Vector for leishmaniasis?
sandfly
Vector for Chagas disease? Etiological agent?
Kissing bug. Trypanosoma cruzi.
Vector for Trypanosoma brucei? Disease?
Tsetse fly. African sleeping sickness.
