VFR Rules Of The Air Flashcards
VFR rules is annex
Annex 2
Vmc minima class A,B,C,D and E
Above 10,000 = 8km vis 1500m away from cloud
Below 10,000 = 5km vis 1000ft vertical and 1500m horizontal from cloud
Vmc minima class F and G
Above 10,000 = 8km vis, clear of cloud
Below 10,000 = 5km vis 1000ft vertical and 1500m horizontal from cloud
Below 3000ft = 5km vis, clear of cloud, insight of ground, 1000 separation AGL
Approaching an a/c head on
20* of the nose
Turn to the RIGHT
Converging a/c are type
A/c that has the other on the right shall give way
2 or more a/c are l/d who has right of way
A/c at the higher level shall give way to the a/c at the lower level
But
The latter shouldn’t take advantage to cut in-front of the other a/c
Manoeuvring area
Everything on an aerodrome apart from the apron
Nav lights
Indicate the path of the a/c
When moving on the manoeuvre area these need to be on - need to display the extremities of the a/c
Green = right
Red = left
Simulated IMC can’t be flown unless
Dual controls are fitted
Qualified pilot is occupying the other seat as the safety pilot - needs to be type rated with decent fwd vision
Or
A competent observer is present in communication with the safety pilot - same field of vision as the safety pilot
Can only be carried out in VMC
Flights in the vicinity of the aerodrome
Have the field in view
Make turns to the left when aprching for l/d and t/o unless told otherwise
Should make all aprch into wind unless
Safety
R/y config
Air traffic considerations determine otherwise
Flight plans shall be submitted
Any flight/ portion thereof to be provided with an ATS
Any IFR flight with advisory airspace
Any flight within or into designated areas/routes
Crossing borders/FIR
Shall be submitted no later than 60mins prior to dep for a controlled flight
Shall be submitted at least 10mins before a/c is estimated to reach entry into CAS / crossing airway/ADR
Repetitive flight plan (RPC)
May be used if the flight is on the same days of consecutive weeks and on at least 10 occasions
Or
Every day over a period of 10 consecutive days
Series of reoccurring fights with identical basic features
Arrival report and what does it consist of
Flight plan is closed on receipt of this
Consists of
A/c ident
Dep and Destiny aerodrome
Time of arrival
Flight plan delays
The flight plan should be amended/ cancelled if there is a delay of
30 mins in excess of estimated off blocks time for a controlled flight
Excess of 1 hour for an uncontrolled flight
Time checks are passed to the pilot to the nearest
Half min
Clearances
Issued solely for expediting and separating air traffic
Obtained prior to operating a controlled flight
Flight plan - when to inform changes to ATC
If the average TAS at cruising level varies by +/- 5%
If the next reporting point increases by 2mins
Any significant change
Change over points should be
Every 60nm
Change VOR at a specific point along an airway
Position report and what does it contain
Must report posn unless told not to by ATC
Consists of Callsign Name and time over rp FL Time expected over next rp and name of next rp
Termination of control
Must inform ATC
Automatically upon l/d
Comms failure VMC
L/d and nearest suitable aerodrome
And
Report arrival asap to the ATCU
Squawk mode C and 7600
Comms failure IMC
Radar vectored - squawk 7600 and return directly to re-join the flight planned route and level no later than the next significant point
Radar monitored - squawk 7600 and return to flight plan after 7mins
Comms failure not under radar
Fly assigned speed and level for 20mins
Commence descent from specified nav aid at or close to the last eat
Complete normal inst aprch
L/d if possible within 30mins after eta
T/o conditions VMC
Cloud ceiling is less than 450m
Or
Ground vis is less than 5km
VFR flights shall not operate
Above fl200 without permission
At supersonic/transonic
Above 290 where rvsm is applied
Highest fl in RVSM = 285
Congested towns/city’s
Height less than 1,000 above the highest obstacle within a 600m radius from the a/c
VIZ on flight plans
VFR then going to IFR
IVY on flight plan
IFR then changing to VFR
If a pic wishes to change from VFR to IFR
If a VFR flight plan was submitted - pic is to communicate the requested changes
Or
If not - submit an IFR flight plan and obtain a clearance prior to preceding under IFR in CAS
EET
Estimated elapsed time
Time from t/o till overhead the dest aerodrome
Non controlled VFR may fly non radio in
Class E,F and G airspace
Interception
Following instructions given to you by a/c - not ATC
Notify ATSU
Try an establish radio comms on 121.5 or 243.000
If equipped with SSR - select mode A, 7700 mode C
Interception phrases
DEE - SEND = descend for l/d
YOU - LAAND = l/d at this aerodrome
CANN-NOTT =unable to comply
