Seperation Flashcards
Separation types
Vertical
Horizontal
Composite
Vertical sep - non RVSM/RVSM
1,000ft below FL290
2,000ft above 290
RVSM - 1,000ft below 410/ 2,000 above 410
Essential traffic is defined as
Controlled traffic that is not/ or will not be separated by the req minimum
When can a/c be assigned a level
Normal conditions - as soon as the a/c has reports vacating the level
Severe turbulence - once a/c reports at level separated by the req minimum
Clearance to maintain own separation in Vmc in the climb and descent is allowed if
Requested by the pilot Class D and E airspace Vmc Day Below 10,000
Lateral separation
VOR - track divergence 15*
NDB - 30*
DR - 45*
At 15nm
Same track sep
Track of 2 a/c converge/diverge by less than 45* or more than 315*
Reciprocal track sep
More than 135* but less than 225*
Crossing track sep
Tracks which intersect at angles of 45* to 135* or 225* to 315*
Long sep, time based same track
Standard - 15min
Can be reduced to
10min with navaids
5min lead a/c 20kts faster
3min lead a/c 40kts faster
Long sep, time based crossing track
Standard = 15min
Reduced to 10min with navaids
Long sep, time based climbing/descending same track
Standard = 15min
10min with nav aids - if lead a/c starts to climb/descend within 10mins of passing navaid - further reduced to 5mins
Long sep, time based reciprocal track
20 mins
10 after the a/c pass each other
Long sep, nm same track
Standard = 20nm
10 - 20kts or faster
Long sep, nm crossing track
Standard = 20nm
10 - 20kts or faster
