Objectives of air traffic services
Prevent collisions between a/c and around the a manoeuvring area
Expedite and maintain an orderly flow of air traffic
Provide advice and information
Notify the need for search and rescue - alerting service

ATSU clocks must accurate within
30secs
Purpose of a clearance
Expediting and separating air traffic
Airmet
Information concerning the expected or currently occurring wx phenomenon which may effect low level flights - that was not already inc the forecasted wx
ATIS broadcasts should last no longer than
30secs
Updated immediately after any sig change in wx
If an a/c indicates it is out of date - current atis can be transmitted by ATC
When is cloud info given on the atis
Cloud base is below highest MSA or 5,000ft or when CB is present
Alerting service is provided to
All a/c provided with ATC
All a/c filed a flight plan and are known to ATC
Any a/c known or believed to be subject to unlawful interference
Responsibilities of the alerting service
FIC and ACC intimate the alert service and move it from phase to phase - also update the RCC as to the situation
RCC
Rescue cooperation centre - responsible for SAR
INCERFA
Uncertainty phase
No comms from the a/c after 30mins
Or
A/c fails to arrive at dest within 30mins of the ETA
ALERFA
Alert phase
Apprehension exists - attempts to make comms have failed
A/c fails to l/d within 5mins of clearance
Know that the a/c has been hijacked
DETRESFA
Distress phase
Further attempts to make comms have failed - evidence that the a/c is distressed
Fuel o/b is considered to be exhausted
ATC speed control regs
Below 250 - multiples of 10kts
Above - multiples of M.01
Not allowed to issue speed control after passing 4nm
