- Ser (def.?) –It’s not something that you _____, it’s something that you _____.
- Ser is used to – (5 things).
- To be (present tense); as in what or who you are.
- It’s not something that you do, it’s something that you are. - Ser is used to:
i.) signify equivalence or identity between two elements.
“Mi esposa es doctora.” - My wife is a doctor.
ii.) to indicate an inherent characteristic or quality.
“El niño es guapo.” - The boy is handsome.
iii.) to indicate origin
“Yo soy de Colombia. - I’m from Colombia.”

iv.) to express ownership or possession.
“Ese carro, el cual está muy sucio, es de Enrique.” - That car, that is very dirty, is Enrique’s.
v.) to express the time of day
“Son las doce.” - It’s twelve o’clock.
vi.) to talk about dates
“Es el primero de enero.” - It is the first of January.

e. g. “Soy yo” = I am I → Spanish (“it’s me” in English)

• Use when there is hope involved.

Subjunctive tense (adjective): relating to or denoting a mood of verbs expressing what is imagined or wished or possible (hypothetically) → “I hope that it be” (sea = “Say Ah”) represents a denoted act or state not as fact but as contingent or possible or viewed emotionally (as with doubt or desire)
Seas
(say-ahs): You be, you may be.
• 2nd person subjunctive mood.
“How nice that it is you” (English) –> “What good that you be [seas] you” (Spanish).
Siendo
Being → You are (all) being bad, they are being bad, we are being bad, etc.
• Present participle
• [Ser speaking] “This is the end, you are all being very bad”
• They are being, we are being, etc.
Sería
I would be; he, she, or it would be.
• 1st and 3rd person conditional
*RIA is a wooded mountain, and it adds ‘would’ to a word, e.g. “I would be a better person.”
