Otro/Otra
Other/Another
• Indefinite article; does not require ‘un’ or ‘una’.
• Change to otra when it modifies a feminine object.
*Joel drives around his other oatmeal [otro] colored car so he can save his nice blue car.
Uno
The number one (1), or refering to “one’s” self.
• Nothing is so good in this life as [como] the house of one (one’s house).
• Nada es tan bueno en esta vida como la casa de uno.
Dos
The number two (2)
• To say “both” – you say “los dos”
Bueno (3)
Good
• Indicates what something is (thus, if used with a verb, usually used with ‘ser’)
• Can mean “oh well” or “anyway”
• “Pero bueno” — “But oh well”
Solo
Solo - Lone (alone and lonely)
• An item can be ‘solo’ if there is only one.
Mejor
Better/Best
• “Sería lo mejor de mi día” —> “It would be the best part of my day”
• ‘lo’ is used as a neuter article in this case (only when there is no noun)
*Joel then travels to the front of his house to admire his collection of trees.
• He considers himself a tree hoarder and thinks his trees are better than anyone elses, saying “My hoard [mejor] is better than everyone elses!”
Cosa
Thing • The word 'thing' is feminine and is used with feminine articles and adjectives. • La cosa • Una cosa • Esa cosa, etc.
*Inside Joels house, he has special handcrafted coasters that he doesn’t set coffee or tea on.
• They are technologically advanced, and when Joel claps his hands, the coasters [cosas] turn into anything that he wants.

Man
Tiempo (gender?)
Time (as in the time that goes by)
• Masculine noun
• ¿Qué ha sido de tu vida todo este tiempo?
• What has been of your life all this time?
*In Joel’s ballroom upstairs (containing all adjectives related to time) there is an old temple [tiempo] on the left side of the room that is even older than the house itself.
Vez (gender?)
Time (the occurrence of something, or the time something happens).
• Feminine noun
• I’ve already been there one time.
*Next to the temple is a fragile old vase [vez] on the right side of the room that breaks every time someone walks near it.
En vez de
In place of/In instance of
• One thing instead of something else.
• “I want the new vase instead of the broken one.”
Día (gender?)
Day masculine noun
• ¿Eras tú el que estaba ese día, no?
• You were you the that was there that day, no?
*Joel keeps a picture of deer [día] on the right side of his wall to remind him of the day.
Noche
Night (fem.)
• Esta noche = Tonight/this night
• Hasta esta noche!
• Parting greeting = Until tonight
*On the left side of his wall it is dark because the windows lead to the night. So he has a ‘no chase’ [noche] policy over there due to the night darkness.
Año
Year (masc.)
*To put on his right wall, Joel gets a new onion [año] for each year that he has a party.
Mucho
Much, a lot.
*To get a lot of his bedroom furniture without spending money, he mooched [mucho] it off of his friends.
