Vectors Flashcards
What is a vector?
A vector quantity has both direction and magnitude.
How do you notate vectors?
A vector between points A and B can be notated as AB with an arrow on top of them or as a squashed bold a/b/c etc. They can also be represented by a column vector (x y) where x is how far it moves in the x direction and y in the y direction.
What is a negative vector?
It is the same as a positive vector, but in the other direction.
How do you multiply a vector by a scalar?
Write the vector as a column vector and multiply each number in the vector by the scalar.
How do you add together vectors?
You draw the first vector and then you draw the next vector from where the first finished off. Then, the sum of the vectors is the vector from where you started to where you finished.
How do you subtract vectors?
You simply add a negative vector.
How do you tell if vectors are parallel?
They will be multiples of each other.
