Sequences Flashcards
What are number sequences?
Sets of numbers that follow a pattern or a rule.
What is an arithmetic sequence?
A sequence that increases by the same amount each time.
What is a position to term rule?
Where you can do an operation on the position the number is in the sequence and get the term. Sometimes, there is more than one operation.
What is the nth term of a sequence?
It is a random number term, and if you can know it, you can know any term in the sequence. The nth term of an arithmetic sequence will be a + d(n - 1)
What is a quadratic sequence?
Where the nth term of a sequence contains x^2.
How can you identify a quadratic sequence?
The differences between each term will be different, but those differences will have the same difference between them.
What is a geometric sequence?
It is were from term to term, you multiply by a common ratio r. The nth term will always be ar^(n - 1) where a is the first term.
What are square numbers?
A sequence with the nth term n^2.
What are cube numbers?
A sequence with the nth term n^3.
What are triangle numbers?
A sequence where the amount each term increases by changes by 1 each time.
What is the Fibonacci sequence>
A sequence where each term is the sum of the previous two terms.
