Direct and Inverse Proportion Flashcards
If two variables are in direct proportion and one is multiplied by a, what happens to the other variable?
It is also multiplied by a.
If two shapes are similar, what does that mean about the proportion between the sides?
It means that they are in direct proportion.
What is direct proportion?
Direct proportion occurs when one variable is always a multiple of the other. The symbol for direct proportion is ∝. The two variables always divide to give a constant. x/y = k
What is inverse proportion?
When a variable is directly proportional to one over the other variable e.g x ∝ 1/y. The two variables in inverse proportion always multiply to give a constant xy = k.
What is exponential growth?
It is where a variable increases at an increasing rate.
What form does exponential growth take as a function?
g(k^x)
