Validity Flashcards
What is validity
How true or legitimate an explanation is
What is internal validity
What goes on in the study and an effect of the study was due to the experiment manipulation rather than other factors or variables
What is external validity
The degree of which findings can be generalised
What are the 3 ways of assessing validity
-face validity
-concurrent validity
-predicted validity
What is face validity
It is whether the test is measuring what they claim to measure
What is concurrent validity
The extent of which data from a new test is similar to the original test
What is predicted validity
How well a test can predict future events or behaviours
How do you improve validity in experiments
Using a control group to assess whether the changes in the DV Is due to the IV
Ways to improve validity in questionnaires
Include a lie scale to control the effects of social desirability bias and assess consistency
