Hypothesis Flashcards
What is a hypothesis
States the relationships between the variables being Studied
What is a directional hypothesis
States there is a difference between variables and states the direction the results will go
What is a non - directional hypothesis
States there is a difference between variables but not stating the direction the results will go
The difference in the amount of sleep a pps has an effect on their memory performance which is shown by the differences in memory test scores of the pps
What type of hypothesis is this?
Non-directional hypothesis
The more sleep a pos has the better their memory performance will be
What type of hypothesis is this
Directional hypothesis
When do psychologists tend to use a directional hypothesisl
When best research suggests the findings will go in a particular direction-tends to be used when a range of results have already been carried out
When do psychologists tend to use non directional hypothesis
Used when no past research has been carried out or when the past research is contradictory
What is a pilot study
A small scale trial run of a study to test any aspects of the design to see if it will work and make any improvements
What is a confederate
An individual in a study who is not a real pps and has been instructed how to behave by the investigator
